Voice Roles

Roles for members in voice channels, per channel or category and for camera and stream.

In the panel under: Moderation, Voice Roles

Voice Roles gives members roles while they are in a voice channel and takes them away again as soon as they leave. With it you can, for example, unlock a text channel only for people in voice, show everyone in the conversation at the top of the member list or make it visible who is streaming right now.

There are three kinds of roles, and you can combine them however you like:

  • One role for any voice channel, no matter where the member is
  • Roles per channel or category, for example a "Gaming" role for every channel in the Gaming category
  • Roles for camera and stream, depending on whether someone has their camera on, is streaming, both or neither

Setup

  1. Create the roles in Discord

Create the roles the bot should give. They must be below the bot's highest role.

  2. Enable the module

  3. Pick the roles

Under Any voice channel, Roles per channel or category and Camera and stream, as many as you need. A field you leave empty simply gives no role.

  4. Save and try it once

Join a voice channel and check whether the role arrives. Members who are already in voice when you save get their roles within a few seconds.

Settings

Any voice channel

Setting Meaning
Role while in voice Every member in a voice or stage channel gets this role
Excluded channels and categories In these channels and in every channel of these categories the role is not given, for example in the AFK channel or in temporary channels. Up to 50 entries

Roles per channel or category

Each rule links a voice channel or category to a role. A category covers every voice channel in it. A member gets every matching role, together with the role for any voice channel. So whoever sits in a channel that has a rule of its own and lies in a category with a rule gets both roles.

There is exactly one rule per channel or category. A rule without a channel or without a role is discarded when you save.

Camera and stream

Setting When a member has it
Stream only Sharing the screen or streaming, camera off
Camera only Camera on, not streaming
Camera and stream Camera on while streaming or sharing the screen
Neither camera nor stream In the voice channel, but with no camera and no shared screen

A member never has more than one of these four roles at a time. Whoever turns the camera on while streaming switches from Stream only to Camera and stream. With Neither camera nor stream you can, for example, give smaller rewards in the level system than for members with camera or stream.

When roles come and go

  • Joining: the matching roles arrive right away.
  • Switching channels: the bot recalculates, the old channel's roles go and the new channel's roles arrive.
  • Camera or stream off: the role for it goes, and if Neither camera nor stream is set, that one arrives.
  • Leaving: every role from this module goes.
  • Muting and deafening change nothing.

The bot fully manages the roles you set. Whoever is no longer in a matching voice channel loses them, even if they got them by hand. So use roles of their own for Voice Roles, not roles you also hand out some other way.

After a restart or update, the bot checks every role against the current state: whoever is still in voice keeps their roles, whoever left in the meantime loses them.

Required permissions

Manage Roles. Every role must be below the bot's highest role, otherwise it is grayed out in the panel. The bot cannot give integration roles or booster roles.

In the panel you can only pick roles below your own highest role. The server owner is exempt from this.
