From Seven to 21 Languages: AlphaCloud Now Speaks Japanese, Hindi and Czech Too

Two days after moving to seven languages, 14 more follow. The bot, the panel and the website now run in 21 languages, and commands describe themselves in each user's own Discord language.

Two days ago we brought the panel and the website to seven languages. The obvious question followed right away: why only seven? Discord itself comes in more than 30 languages, and many servers using AlphaCloud speak none of the seven. So 14 more are joining.

The 21 languages

The bot, the web panel and the website now speak:

  • German, English, French, Spanish, Dutch
  • Portuguese (Brazil), Italian, Polish, Czech, Swedish
  • Turkish, Russian, Ukrainian, Arabic
  • Hindi, Bengali, Indonesian, Vietnamese
  • Chinese (Simplified), Japanese, Korean

Everything from Portuguese on is new, except Turkish and Arabic. That covers everything a server sees: log messages, tickets, giveaways, verification, DMs to members and every module in the panel.

The server's language and the user's language

Until now there was exactly one language per server, set in the panel under Setup. That stays the rule for everything the whole server sees. When the bot posts a giveaway or writes a warning to the log channel, it should speak a language the team understands, whatever language each individual reader has set in Discord.

In two places we now follow you instead of the server:

Command descriptions. When you type / in Discord, the list shows a short explanation under every command. That explanation now comes in the language your Discord is set to. On a German server, a member whose Discord is in Japanese sees Japanese descriptions while everyone else keeps seeing German. Command names stay English everywhere: /ticket should read the same in every guide and every support chat.

/help, /info and /ping. These three are about AlphaCloud itself, and only you see their answer. So they reply in your Discord language, not the server's.

Two languages are missing from the command descriptions: Arabic and Bengali. That is not our choice. Discord does not offer either of them as an app language, and the descriptions would appear as soon as it did.

How the translations were made

We are a small team, and having 14 languages translated by hand at once would have taken months. So the new languages were translated with the help of AI. Every translated text went through an automatic check: no placeholder lost, no Discord mention broken, no link changed, nothing accidentally left in English.

What a machine cannot check is whether a sentence reads naturally to someone who grew up with the language. That is where we need you. If something in your language feels clumsy, uses the wrong term or is simply wrong, report it on bugs.alphacloud.bot. We fix reports like these quickly.

What stays German and English

The limits from last time have not changed. Legal texts (terms, privacy policy, legal notice, withdrawal policy) are only binding in German and English, every other language gets the English version. A machine translation of a contract that none of us can review legally would be worse than none. The blog also stays German and English.

How to switch

  • Panel and website: through the language menu at the top, now with flags. Your choice in the panel is saved to your account.
  • The bot on your server: in the panel under Setup, applies to everyone on the server.
  • Command descriptions and /help: follow the language of your Discord app automatically, nothing to set.
